I John 5:19 "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one."
John often wrote of things that we know. So at the end of his book he writes that we know we are children of God. That confidence comes from the gospel message. But then he reminds us of an ominous truth, the whole world is under the control of the evil one. This is a serious problem that confronts us. We should not anticipate that being a Christian will be easy given the stiff opposition that we face. But we have victory because of Jesus.
